Each Monday at our Meditation Circle, we will explore a different principle as the foundation of our practice. This week we will focus on The Law of Least Effort and the art of letting go.
The Principle of Least Action ~ The Law of Least Effort
“Nature’s intelligence functions with effortless ease… with carefreeness, harmony and love.” ~ The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success
Each day of our life, we have the opportunity to begin again. Sadly, we often are held back by the restrictions that we place on ourselves based on what has come before. The past is part of our fabric; there is no denying that it plays a significant role in our definition. However, when we linger there too long, we begin to experience our lives from a place of stagnancy. We cannot change yesterday; it is carved in stone. The past is written, the ink is dry. The Law of Least Effort is an exercise in letting go, practicing acceptance, and claiming responsibility for our lives.
Furthermore, in the overwhelming pace of our lives, we often feel as though we are swimming upstream. We wish things were different; we focus on the “what-if”s” – we worry. Today, we release that struggle and we simply let our life unfold without interference. It is not necessarily about doing less; it is about taking the path of least resistance.
Be Like the Eagle
Click on the video that I shared at the top of this post. Notice that the eagle soars effortlessly. The current of the wind guides her direction. Winds spread wide, there is no resistance. This is a perfect example of going with the flow. Just for today, let go and experience your life from a place of acceptance, responsibility, and defenselessness. Free yourself and gracefully glide through your day.
A true man never frets about his place in the world, but just slides into it by the gravity of his nature and swings there as easily as a star. ~ Edwin Hubbel Chapin
Practice Acceptance
Focus on accepting everything as it is. Do not struggle against the moment. Tomorrow you can wish for things to be different. At the same time, allow yourself to accept the details exactly as they are without judgment. This moment is a culmination of every breath you have taken, every path you have chosen, every time you have rejoiced and every time you have cried.
“Today I will accept people, situations, circumstances, and events as they occur. I will know that this moment is as it should be, because the whole universe is as it should be. My acceptance is total and complete. I accept things as they are this moment, not as I wish they were.” Seven Spiritual Laws of Success, Deepak Chopra
Accept Responsibility
Take responsibility for your life. Do not blame yourself or others for where you stand. If there are problems, acknowledge them as opportunities to explore a creative response to the situation. Do not get stuck in the blame game. Seeds of opportunity are often born from problems that are resolved; this awareness allows for a transformation in your life. In the Law of Least Effort, you simply accept responsibility and move on. You do not seek answers; you simply claim your life as your own.
Defenselessness
Release the need to defend your point of view.
Life is complicated and we are complex beings. We expend a great deal of effort defending our positions; energy that is not retrievable. Instead, release the struggle and allow those around you to express their opinions without interference. Remain open to their point of view and abdicate the need to express your thoughts. Experience their opinion from a place of love. It is actually quite liberating to practice this little golden nugget. Listen more, speak less; deny confrontation, seek harmony.
Most of our energy goes into upholding our importance. If we were capable of losing some of that importance, two extraordinary things would happen to us. One, we would free our energy from trying to maintain the illusory idea of our grandeur; and two, we would provide ourselves with enough energy to catch a glimpse of the actual grandeur of the universe. ~ The Art of Dreaming, Don Juan tells Carlos Castaneda
