Today would have been my dad’s 88th birthday. He lived a very sad and lonely life; never really found his way to happiness. He taught me so many powerful lessons about living life. Through all of his dysfunction he was always there for me; sometimes hugging me so tight it hurt. He was perfectly imperfect and I loved him unconditionally. That love taught me a lot about accepting people for exactly who they are; to reach past the shell and to see through the outer layers that mask our truth. To see through the pain and just see love.
The Laughing Heart
your life is your life
don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
be on the watch.
there are ways out.
there is a light somewhere.
it may not be much light but
it beats the darkness.
be on the watch.
the gods will offer you chances.
know them.
take them.
you can’t beat death but
you can beat death in life, sometimes.
and the more often you learn to do it,
the more light there will be.
your life is your life.
know it while you have it.
you are marvelous
the gods wait to delight
in you.”
